Evolution of the Website Design From the 90's to 2013

Over a period of time the technology of websites has evolved giving developers the power to create new generation website designs which are useful and give an impressive web experience. The development in internet based technology is a result of the ongoing efforts of the open web community which define technologies such as CSS3, HTML5 and WebGL which are supported on all web browsers. Mentioned below is the development of the web from the 90's to 2013.

The Beginning -1992

During the initial stage of designing of websites, Netscape 3.0 was used for designing. Sites used in 1998 were entirely text based, used very few images and did not have much consideration of usability or SEO. All that mattered was presence on the web.

Flash Based Website-1996

Flash was originally called Future Splash animator, then Macromedia Flash and is currently called Adobe Flash. Initially it started using very basic tools and time lines. It later progressed to become more powerful, and could develop an entire page. The advantage of flash based sites over HTML was that it offered more functions and design options, and more complex designs could be created using flash.

Dynamic HTML- Early 2000

During the early 2000s Dynamic HTML gained popularity in website design as it allowed the readers to not only read static content but also allowed the reader to interact with the web content, which was previously not possible.

Mobile Responsive Websites- 2007

In 2007 mobile responsive web sites started being created. With the improvement in technology and the constant usage of the internet on mobile phones, it was necessary to develop websites which would be supported on browsers of mobiles.

Modern Website Design/

Today technology such as HTML5,CSS3 and WebGL are used and are compatible with all browsers available on the net. These pages are easily accessible and include features such as playing audio and video files on websites and provide various other functions and designs which are not available on Flash.

W3C has announced that it would launch a stable HTML5 recommendation by the end of 2014, and will launch HTML 5.1 recommendation by 2016 end.
