When it comes to creating a distinct impression on minds of the audience, logo designs play a critical role. If someone tells you about Coca Cola, for example, the first thing that will probably come in your mind is its logo.
Developing a logo, however, is not an easy task. If you are planning to design a logo, ensure that they possess the following features.
- Works well in any color
- Size is important
- Possesses one or two fonts
- Try to create simple designs
- Utilizes vector images
A great logo should look good in any color. This includes full color, black, and white. The logo of Shell, for example, looks great in its original form and without color as well.
Many people start thinking about colors during the initial stages of creating a logo. This strategy can interfere with the logo quality. The reason is that you may feel interested in playing with colors, rather than focusing on the logo design.
To avoid such a situation, devote initial stages for creating the graphic. Once you are satisfied, determine the colors that would suit it the best.
A company logo can be placed on a huge public hoarding or on business cards. For this reason, a graphic designer should come up with logos that look good in any size. However, at the same time, you need to ensure that the logo maintains its quality during scaling.
A logo that contains more than three fonts appears confusing. Moreover, viewers may find it distracting. Each font is different and a person requires time to identify it. Using three or four fonts at the same time can be distracting for viewers.
For best results, use a maximum of one or two fonts in your designs. Most famous companies, such as Kodak and Master Card, use a single font in their logos.
Studies reveal that people remember only those logos that are simple and can be recalled easily. A complex graphic design contains more details and therefore, a person has to invest greater effort for remembering it. In simple terms, if you opt for a complex logo, chances are high that people will forget within few seconds of viewing it.
Another problem of complex logos is that they are not scalable. This means that when printed in small, a complicated logo may look smudged or lose its details.
To create a lasting impression on people, develop simple logos. Consider logos of famous companies, such as Apple and IBM. They have simple and yet, powerful logos.
While designing a logo, some people opt for vector graphics software that can include Corel Draw and Adobe Illustrator. Vector graphic allows a logo to remain consistent across various sizes. Opting for raster graphics software may not be a great idea. The reason is that it can interfere with your desire to maintain visual consistency of the logos.
While developing logos, ensure that they contain these basic features. Do not forget to discuss these issues with your client, so that there is no confusion.
