Flyers, with their colorful appearance and crisp yet informative text, are an effective way to capture the attention of the target audience. It is also very cost-effective, a reason which makes it a vital promotional tool for small businesses. If your business is in the budding stage and you cannot afford a hefty advertising budget, you might well think of professional flyer design to convey your message to the target audience. Whether you wish to spread awareness regarding an upcoming event, promote a special deal or announce the launch of a particular product or service, flyers always offer you a great option at affordable rates.

There are certain things which need to be followed in order to create effective flyers that has the right impact on your potential and existing customers and triggers them to the desired action. Have a look at these guidelines and you will surely get some wonderful tips:

Be professional: Remember that when you are going for a flyer design for your marketing campaigns, you are presenting your brand through this promotional tool. For a small business building a brand and creating an appropriate brand image in the minds of the target audience is very important. Hence, try not to look cheesy but go for a professional and clean appearance. It is always good to include the logo and the tagline properly, have a pleasant combination of colors and powerful texts in attractive and professional font. That will go a long way in enhancing your brand value and creating the right impact.’

Know your Target Consumer: Before designing a promotional flyer for a small business, have proper ideas about who your target consumers are. Go for the design with your customer in mind, otherwise you will end up spending a lot of money unnecessarily. Playful and bright colors are suitable if you want to reach out to families while classic, soft colors are apt in case you are target a high profile audience. Always make it clear to your customers what action they should take, like visiting a website, going to a store or attending an event.

Quality Photography: Incorporating good photographs can make a remarkable difference to your flyer. Ensure that the photography is of good quality and has the optimum amount of clarity.

Illustrations and Images: It is indeed great to deliver your message through illustration because eye-catching illustrations draw the attention of people very easily. However, when you are incorporating illustrations and images in your flyers, choose a size that is compatible with the shape and dimensions of the flyer. If you are using a number of smaller images, you can consider grouping them together.

Persuasive content: Pictures can draw the attention of your customers, but they will retain their attention and engage themselves only when you have something powerful to convey. Once people get attracted after coming across a nice illustration or image, they will obviously look for further details. That’s where the importance of persuasive content is realized. Make the headline as impressive as possible and back it up with an informative text.

Make a good choice of fonts: Do not use too many types of fonts; otherwise it will confuse your target audience. Using two types of fonts is good, but make sure that the fonts complement each other and are compatible with the total getup of the brochure.

When it comes to small businesses, flyer design is one of the vital marketing strategies, as it helps in getting the desired action in an economical manner. These guidelines will definitely help you in designing professional flyers that give a competitive edge to your business.

Consumers get to see a lot of promotional campaigns every day. If you want to break the clutter, a proper brand image that sends the right message to your target audience is highly essential. A professional graphic designer can transform your organization’s service, product and message into an attractive visual design that will appeal to your target audience. But the primary question is how you would hire a good designer? Here are some important tips which will help you in understanding what attributes to look for if you want to hire a graphic designer for your business.

Look for recommendations: Word-of-mouth is perhaps one of the best ways to find a good designer. You can ask for recommendations from somebody whom you can trust or look for business designs that you admire and find out who created the visual graphics. If you are searching from websites, browse the portfolio very carefully to understand whether the firm will suit your business requirements. It is also advisable to look for the clients list.

Experience does matter: Make sure that the designer has proper experience in the field that you are interested in. For example, if it is a question of designing visual graphics for your website, look for a professional who has relevant experience is the field of graphic designing for websites. An experienced person will be able to understand your requirement, your content and how to convey the same to your target audience. And it’s better if your designer has earlier worked on a project similar to yours.

Be particular: Being specific always helps you in getting the right output. It is okay if you cannot make a creative visualization of the final output, but it is always good if you can properly explain what you wish to achieve through the design. Consider preparing a brief about your business perspective and specifications, for it will help you efficiently hire a graphic designer as well as allow the person to deliver successfully. In short, if you have a clear vision of the objectives, the final output will definitely match what you have looked for.

Be sure of the message to be delivered: The most significant element and the ultimate purpose of your design are to get your message across to your target market. Your designer should clearly bring out your company’s perspective, values and purpose. Help out the designer with a brief yet comprehensive business model that he can easily grasp. Also render a clear view of the target audience and the communication objectives.

Chart out your objectives: You can understand whether a designer will fulfill your needs only when you clearly define the objective of your project and how it is going to be used. For example, a brochure design project definitely cannot be handled in the same manner as a graphic design project for websites.

Outline your budget and deadlines: Since a design project involves a lot of steps, it is great if you outline the budget and schedule with deadlines. Also ensure, how many versions of the design you would be requiring and whether there is the probability of any sudden change. Then estimate whether you designer can accommodate within your budget and schedule and cater to other associated requirements.

Ownership is always good: Before you hire a graphic designer get to know whether you will have complete ownership of the final creation. If you have access to the file, you will be able to make changes to the design as and when required.

A good graphic designer can aptly highlight your business perspectives through his creations. So, in order to seek out the right person, chart out your objectives clearly defining your budget schedule and message, look for experience, get recommendations and never forget to claim ownership of the final output.

If you ask someone, what is the corporate identity of a company? He may tell you that it’s the brand logo. Is the answer correct? Its both yes and no. The answer is correct because corporate identity and brand persona of a business gets intermingled in its emblem. A logo is a mark that helps people recognize an organization. Think about a company like Kraft Foods and you will realize that though they own multiple brands, the Kraft insignia bears both corporate persona of the mother concern and also the characteristics of the sub-brands.

However, the answer is not 100% correct, because the commercial characteristic of a company is made up of many visual devices such as stationery items, marketing materials and much more. A company decides its brand color, official font, overall image (serious or jovial) and then project the identity through the aforementioned mediums. Logo is certainly the most important element of a company’s business personality, but not the only element.

When an already established organization hires a graphic design company for corporate identity design, they give a set of guidelines to the designers and tell the artists to follow them strictly. Designers need to abide these guidelines to keep the brand identity coherent.

Let’s take a look at the items that visually build your corporate identity and help people relate to your business.

Logo – Symbol of your complete corporate character

Stationery materials - Business card, letterhead, envelope etc.

Marketing materials - Brochure, flyer, website etc.

Packaging - Product label and other packaging items.

Apparel - Clothing items worn by employers and often distributed at business events for effective brand recall.

All of the above mentioned items build the distinctiveness of a corporation and help it create its own space in the crowded market. If you are a graphic designer, then when clients hire you for corporate identity design, make sure that the overall image of the company is well projected in logo, brochure, business card, letterhead etc. to create an emotional bond between the brand and consumers.

Companies send event, product launch invitation, greeting cards and many more marketing materials inside envelopes, but only a few know that envelopes can be used for marketing purpose as well. After all, when you send an event invitation, people notice the envelope first and only if it encourages them to check the content inside, they open it.

Therefore, you should pay attention to envelope design. Make sure that the layout is interesting and unique. Here is how you should design an envelope and make it a proper marketing tool.

Less is More- Leave space between design elements to let the viewers enjoy the layout. Use strong bright colors, not more than 2-3, to maintain contrast ratio. You can use your brand color in the corporate envelope to help customers identify your company immediately.

Design Backside and the Flap- Make use of the empty space at the back and draw some unique graphics to convey your message visually. For instance, if you are sending a hotel brochure inside the envelope, you can use a photo of the hotel to increase curiosity among potential buyers. You can also place your brand logo for better brand recall. Write the call-to-action message on flap for better impact.

Write a Compelling Copy- Use appropriate marketing appeal (security, emotion, desire for beauty etc.) and write a few persuasive words to grab consumers’ attention. For instance, if you run a cosmetics company, you can write “want a fairer and spot free skin?” on the front side and increase conversion rate.

Indicate Benefits- Why will people open the envelope if you don’t show them some benefits? Tell the customers why they should read the content inside by highlighting some benefits. For instance, a statement like “flat 50% off on our products for 3 days” will certainly engage buyers.

Give Clear Call-to-Action- As I have already said a call-to-action message is a must for effective marketing. Inject a sense of urgency so that receivers read the content immediately. For instance, “find out more inside…now!”

Once the design is complete, you should hire a professional printing service provider and tell him to use high quality paper to print the envelope.

Working in a graphic design company is an exciting experience. You work with so many experienced designers and get to learn several new designing techniques. Everyday you face a new challenge and find a way to overcome it successfully. Some people think that freelancing gives more freedom and opportunities to earn money, but working for a graphic design company has some great advantages as well. If you are an aspiring graphic artist, then read on.

Stable Income- When you work for a company, you get a fixed salary every month. Even if there are fewer projects, the organization will still pay your remuneration. A freelancer may earn huge amount of money in one month, but he is never sure whether his income will be the same in the next month or not.

Your Focus Is Only On Design- There are different departments in a company and professionals handle their own responsibilities. As an artist, the organization will expect only quality designs from you, not any accountancy or managerial skills like freelancers.

You Get to Know the Industry- It helps you learn the secrets of graphic design business. Since you meet with clients, discuss project details, see the charges of different projects, you get to know how a firm works and makes profits.

Learn New Techniques- Reputed graphic design firms organize occasional workshops and offer training to novices to help them become a better designer. If you don’t know a certain technique, you can ask fellow artists to help you

No Client Dealing- Negotiation with clients regarding the project cost a big headache for most freelancers. When you work in an agency, business development managers handle the pricing issues, not you.

Get Corporate Benefits- After every 6 month or 1 year, designers get salary hike depending upon their performance. They also get medical and insurance facilities from the company.

These are some of the benefits you get when you work for a graphic design firm. If peace of mind and stable income keeps you happy, the joining a reputed graphic design company after collage is a wise decision.

What do you think when you hear the word “corporate identity”? Most people think that it’s all about logo, but in reality its not. Besides the brand logo, business card, website, letterhead and brochure, all are the parts of a company’s corporate identity. To be precise, corporate identity tells consumers what they may expect from your business and how your products and services are different from other established companies in the market.

Here are some of the things you should remember for effective corporate identity design.

Create a Logo – Design a logo that reflects your brand’s USP. It should visually communicate with your target audience. Make sure that the logo matches perfectly with all your online and offline marketing materials. Choose easily readable fonts to help people identify your company quickly and maintain color balance so that the emblem looks good in both color and monotone format.

Create a Unique Tag Line – A tag line is extremely beneficial in corporate identity design. You can use it along the insignia in website, business card, brochure, letterhead and in many other places. Write a tagline that is catchy and tells customers the USP of your business. For instance, YouTube’s “broadcast yourself” is a great tagline that tells the USP of their brand.

Maintain Consistency in Graphics, Colors and Typography – Take time to decide how you want to project your organization to the customers and then stick to the design concepts in all the corporate identity materials. People should be able to relate to your corporation by seeing any of the branding items. For instance, McDonalds maintains red and yellow colors in emblem, business card, brochure and website design to make their brand visually identifiable all over the world.

Be Unique - There are already so many companies out there selling the same products or offering the same services. Hence, you have to differentiate your business through the corporate identity design. Highlight the USP of your brand through each and every brand identity item to make sure that customers will prefer your company for their desired products/services.

Designing the brand persona of a company is not an easy task. You should hire a reputed graphic design company, discuss your business goals and let them make your brand memorable.

Effectiveness of a brochure is not solely dependent on its design. A beautiful brochure design certainly stimulates potential customers, but it’s the content that informs and encourages them to take an action. Content of a brochure changes according to the objectives you set, but there are some general content guidelines that you have to follow while designing.

Who reads the brochure? Customers. What is the purpose of it? It sells. Keep these two things in mind while writing the content. Customers should find the content interesting and take the action that you want them to take.

Corporate logo should not be placed on the front cover. Write a provocative question or a benefit statement and put it on the front page to increase conversion rate. Majority of people don’t even open a brochure if they don’t see a compelling reason or benefit on the cover page.

Introduce your company briefly and use the space mainly to highlight the benefits customers will get if they choose your products/services. You must know the target consumers’ desires and demonstrate how you can fulfill them.

Make sure that benefits are highlighted in headlines, sub-headline and captions because some readers scan only those lines.

Leave enough white space to offer better readability. Stay away from cliché statements such as “best company”, “cheapest services” etc.

If you are providing a high tech service like cloud computing, tech jargons are inevitable, but try to use simple language as much as possible. You may have an Engineering degree, but your potential customers won’t like to read a pamphlet they can’t understand.

Tell the readers exactly what you want them to do and how they can do it. For instance, “buy now. Visit our website xyz.com” or “call now @ 12345678.”

Never ask open ended questions and don’t use “if”, “maybe” in your content. Show your clients that you are confident about your products/services.

Remember, ultimately it’s your words that increase the conversion rate. A unique, but blank brochure design does not impress anyone. Therefore, give utmost attention to content and make sure that people will think only about your company after reading your brochure.

Business card design has evolved quite a lot in past few years. Earlier we had only one sided business cards, but now people are creating double sided business cards as well. Some people say that it’s great for personal promotion as you get more space to talk about your business and some say that it increases printing cost.

Business cards help you introduce yourself or your company to the potential clients and a double sided card certainly looks more unique than one sides ones. However, everyone has his own opinion and you should take the final decision considering whether you really need both side design.

Here are some of the pros and cons of a double sided business card. Hope this will help you take a wise decision.

Pros

Looks Different – There is no doubt that it looks more attractive than the traditional cards. To make things more interesting you can create a design that starts from the front and ends at the back. This will also encourage people to check two sides.

You Can Say More - As there is more space; you can put the logo and business information on front and contact number, office address etc. at back. This way you will be able to leave more white space and maintain readability.

Memorable - Your clients receive dozens of business cards every week, but how many of them do they really remember? This unique designing style will certainly help you make your company unforgettable.

Use It for Advertising - You can use the back side for advertisement purpose. Create miniature, graphics rich ads to impress the viewers.

Cons

Increases Printing Cost – You have to spend more for printing as there is content on both side of the card. If you don’t want to increase your budget, opting for traditional design is a better idea.

Risk of Errors – If you create a design that starts from the front and ends at the back, alignment is a big issue. Business cards are very small in size and even a centimeter alignment mistake can spoil the entire design.

People May Miss Information – Some of your customers may have never seen double sided cards and therefore, they will not turn it over to see what’s on the back.

Business cards speak a lot about a company and whether you opt for single sided or double sided business cards design, the effectiveness is ultimately dependent on your designing skills.
