Most experienced graphic designers will admit that at the beginning of their careers, they had a vague knowledge of their specialized areas. With time and experience, they acquired a greater control over their respective fields.

Unfortunately, in the corporate identity design industry, ignorance is evaluated as weakness. Knowledge, of course, offers various benefits. However, in some situations, ignorance can also provide one with several advantages. In this article, we will present arguments in favor of and against ignorance.

An ignorant person is curious and possesses the zeal to know about important concepts that can include stationary design and brochure design. He is not afraid to reveal that he is yet to learn many things. He inquires and asks for clarifications. All these in turn, widen his knowledge base and offer him an enriching experience.

Portrays you as an Honest Person

Revealing your weakness is not an easy task. Therefore, if you reveal your weakness, it will definitely portray you as an honest person.

If you do not possess good knowledge about an issue, you will take more time in understanding it. When clients offer brief for a certain project, an ignorant designer may face difficulty in comprehending their requirements.  He may have to research about the concepts related to the project and clear doubts. All these require time.

Ignorance leads to mistakes. Of course, you can always rectify mistakes. However, this involves wastage of time. This can also create a poor impression.

Ignorance comes with several advantages and disadvantages. We think that even if a person is ignorant about certain issues, he should opt for active steps to increase his knowledge. Remember that if you are  proud of your ignorance, you can never learn. For best results, adopt a pro-active attitude and start learning.
