A business card or ID is an effective marketing tool and helps you connect with your potential clients. It works like a resume and informs people about your products and services. Most people will hire a designer for business card design, but once it’s designed, they will keep it in their purse and forget about it completely. This is unwise because if you are not into personal promotion, you are missing a huge opportunity for self marketing.
Let’s find out how you can utilize your card and increase your business.
Insert it in Bill Payments- Retail companies will often advertise themselves through their bills to promote their services. Why don’t you do the same? For instance, when you are paying your bills, insert your corporate card in the payment envelope with the check to reach your prospective customers. The receiver of your bill amount may not need your service, but if your service is really useful, he may distribute it among his friends.
Maintain Etiquette- When you hand your corporate ID to someone, he may also give his in return. Take it politely and look at it for a few seconds to pay your respect to his profession. And, if someone asks you for your card twice, don’t hesitate or ask questions. Just hand it over immediately.
In fact, give it to anyone and everyone you know. Most may land in waste, but can you take the risk of losing a future client?
Ask for Referrals- If you are a freelance designer and looking for a full-time job, instead of asking people directly about a job vacancy, introduce yourself and ask, “Do you know someone who needs an experienced designer?” The person will either refer you to someone or may request you to join his company.
Follow Up- Whether you get the project or not, after every client meeting, send a “thank you” note with your card to your client. This small gesture will create a good impression. The client may not need your services right now, but when he needs you, your corporate ID will help him find your contact information.
Add a Slogan- While designing, think what makes you special and add an interesting slogan to grab people’s attention. For instance, if you are a web designer, you can write a slogan like, “quality design, affordable rates, timely delivery.” A catchy slogan will help people remember your name, even if they lose the card.
Following the aforementioned guidelines, you can promote yourself successfully and grab target clients’ attention.

Business card is a great tool for self promotion, unless you’ve designed it real bad & they end up as chewing-gum scrapers! LOL!!!
There are some other ways to share your business card with others. For instance, designers can insert the card and newsletter inside their corporate envelope and send it via mail for better business promotion. Social gatherings are also a great place to share business cards with others. Of course, I don’t mean randomly handing them out like the event management chaps
